Safe to Say Cardinals Fan David Spade Ain't All Broken Up by Kyler’s Departure | The Rich Eisen Show

Spade Isn't Mourning Kyler Murray

David Spade stopped by during draft week, and the conversation quickly turned to his Arizona Cardinals, who hold the third overall pick and are now without Kyler Murray. Rich teed up the state of the quarterback room, noting Murray is now a Minnesota Viking, and Spade played along with mock confusion about the replacement, cracking that he could not recall the name and landing on Bobby Brewster before accepting a correction to Jacoby Brissett.

Much of the bit centered on Murray's reputation for preferring his iPad to the playbook. Rich walked through the widely reported contract clause that limited Murray's tablet time, and the public backlash that followed before the language was removed. Spade pivoted into a bit from his own world, joking that when he does a movie, directors love when he reads the script, though they do not insist on it. He recalled the old Hollywood trick of tucking a hundred-dollar bill into the back of a script to see if an actor reached it. He claimed he got the money every time.

Spade offered a genuine note through the jokes, saying he thinks Murray will do a good job in Minnesota, then immediately dismissed his own opinion as worthless. Rich redirected to the real football question. Will the Cardinals take their next quarterback in this upcoming draft? Spade deferred, name-checked Brissett, and recalled the bizarre moment when Murray took a football off his facemask and did not return the rest of the year with a foot injury on the same play.

The segment doubled as promotion for Spade's upcoming film Bus Boys, out April 17th. Rich teased the logline about two idiots who believe becoming waiters will solve all their problems. Spade pitched it as funny rather than world-changing, and mentioned a stand-up run in Nashville followed by a Pittsburgh stop during draft weekend, then on to Charlotte.

The closer leaned into the Cardinals fan in him. Spade admitted he was told not to answer sports-talk questions, then stopped short of predicting which of the three cities on his tour, Nashville, Pittsburgh, or Charlotte, would have a better year for its NFL team. The broader read was simple enough. A Cardinals fan is not broken up about Kyler leaving, and the third pick gives Arizona room to reset the position if they want it.
