Saints HC Kellen Moore Talks Tyler Shough, Jordyn Tyson & More with Rich

Before Kellen Moore even sat down with Rich on The Rich Eisen Show, the New Orleans Saints head coach had already been upstaged by a chocolate Lab in a red bow tie.

The dog belonged to third-round tight end Oscar Delp's family. During the draft broadcast, while everyone celebrated, the Lab executed what Rich called a perfect swim move to reclaim its spot on the couch. Rich confessed he had texted the clip to TJ from the NFL Network draft set demanding they air it. He promised the show would run it again that week.

Moore had only just seen the video when he joined the show. From there, he walked through a draft class that leaned heavily on Georgia and on family trees.

New Orleans took wide receiver Jordyn Tyson eighth overall, and Moore said the decision took about five seconds once Tyson was on the board. There was no waiting on a phone to ring. They were picking and sticking. Moore acknowledged the injury concerns from Tyson's college career but said the more time the staff spent with him, the more they liked the film and the makeup of a receiver who can play multiple spots and is willing to block on the perimeter.

The Saints then shopped, as Rich put it, at the Georgia store. Defensive tackle Kristen Miller came in the second round. Moore, a self-described quarterback guy, said the formula is simple. Put big bodies inside, push the pocket, and life gets harder for opposing passers. Tight end Oscar Delp arrived in the third, a player Moore said does the dirty work as a blocker and produces in catch-and-run situations.

Then came what Rich called the sibling store. Wide receiver Bryce Lane, brother of Trey, was a pleasant surprise still on the board out of North Dakota State. Lorenzo Styles Jr., brother of Sonny, brings positional flexibility and the special teams edge that Matt Patricia drilled into him at Ohio State.

The conversation turned to the offense Moore is building around quarterback Tyler Shough. Travis Etienne, snagged early in free agency, joins Alvin Kamara in the backfield. Moore framed the move as both opportunistic and personal. Etienne is a Louisiana native coming home, and the running back class behind him in the draft was thin.

On Shough, Moore said the second-year quarterback is in a great spot. Year one was about installing the system. Year two is about tailoring the scheme to what the room can do. Moore pointed to Shough's first NFL start against the Rams, where he hung in against one of the league's best defenses, and then a Carolina game the following week where Shough delivered third-down throws and made plays off-script. Moore called it a big-time moment for the entire program.

Moore drew on his own quarterback journey from Boise State to Detroit, where he shared a room with Matthew Stafford, Shaun Hill and Dan Orlovsky, and later Dallas with Tony Romo. He said every quarterback brings different exposures and preferences, and the job is to build a system around them.

On the futures of Cam Jordan and Alvin Kamara, Moore said both mean the world to the organization, and the Saints are still working through it. Players, he reminded Rich, have decisions of their own.
