Saints fans want to know two things. How good can this team be in 2026, and will Cam Jordan and Alvin Kamara be on the field when they get there. New head coach Kellen Moore came on The Rich Eisen Show with measured answers to both.
On the expectation side, Moore did not promise anything. He pointed at the way the team finished last season and the offseason acquisitions, framed the roster as still growing and still developing, and pointed at the depth of young players who got time on the field.
"There should be a lot of excitement," Moore said. "We're excited about the group that we have, and we're really excited to get out on the field and start working."
On the veteran question, Moore was careful. Cam Jordan and Alvin Kamara, he said, mean the world to the organization, and the team will continue to go through the process. He acknowledged the reality on the other side of the equation. Players have decisions of their own to make. Cam, in particular, is in that boat. Kamara's season was cut short by injury, which kept him from experiencing the stretch of good football the team played at the end.
"Both those guys mean the world to me. I love those guys, and hopefully they're back," Moore said. "We'll see what happens."
Rich pivoted to the calendar. Rookie minicamp is up next.
Moore framed the priority as exposure and acclimation. Many of the rookies are wrung out. Moore noted that one of his rookies has likely been on 20 flights in the past two months. The early work is about getting the bodies back into football shape and integrating the rookies with the veterans before the offseason program ramps up.
Rich teed up the picture Saints fans actually want to imagine. Moore on the field with a whistle, watching Tyler Shough throw to Taysom Hill with Olave on the same snap.
Moore added one more name. AT Perry. He paused to make sure he was pronouncing it the way the player wanted.
"Look at these offenses around our league. A lot of them have these two, three receiver combinations and that kind of depth behind them," Moore said. "We thought that was a great opportunity for us to create that. The way Chris played last year, we loved it. We've got some other young guys that we're excited about. Get Jordan in this mix and get this thing going."
The pitch to New Orleans, distilled, is that the offense is not waiting on a single player. It is being built around a stack of receivers, with the head coach watching everything come together with a whistle around his neck.
