Why Bears Superfan Seth Rollins Wants to Face the Seahawks in NFL Week 1 | The Rich Eisen Show

Rollins Pitches His Week 1 Game

Seth Rollins comes on the Rich Eisen Show with a clear ask. If the NFL is looking for a week one kickoff game, give him Bears versus Seahawks. No other matchup on the board works as well.

Rich walks Rollins through the realistic options. The Rams and 49ers are in Melbourne the day after opening night, so they're ruled out. The Cowboys opened last year, and the league typically doesn't run it back with the same team. The Chiefs are possible, but when the schedule drops in May, Patrick Mahomes' availability will likely still be a question.

The Patriots in Seattle would check the Super Bowl rematch box. The last time the NFL opened the season that way was Panthers-Broncos a decade ago. They could also plant Jim Harbaugh against the Giants and sell the Harbaugh brand as the headline.

Rollins brushes all of that aside. He wants the Bears. Night one.

His reasoning is tight. Chicago was the NFL's sexy story last year. The playoffs were theirs because of the way they won during the regular season. Comebacks. Big plays. Ice Man moments. Ben Johnson arriving as head coach. Rollins wants year two of that pairing tested against the best defense in the league, and Seattle fits.

He's honest about why he needs to see it. Last time the Bears had an incredible winning season, Matt Nagy followed it with a straight downhill arc. Rollins doesn't want to assume. He wants Caleb Williams to face the Seahawks defense week one, right out of the gate, and tell him whether Ben Johnson year two is legit or a fluke.

Rich thinks Rollins already knows. It feels different this time. He hates using Mitchell Trubisky as the contrast, but this is not the double-doink Nagy era. Last year was house money. Year two is the test.

The other layer is narrative. Bears-Seahawks would have been the NFC Championship Game if Chicago had beaten the Rams. Seattle would have been playing for the Super Bowl. Opening the season with the matchup that nearly happened carries weight. The storyline writes itself for the broadcast.

Rollins keeps driving it home. Ratings. Night one. That's the name of the game. Chicago is the most watchable team in the NFC. Seattle has the defensive personnel to actually answer the question being asked. Put them on a Thursday in September and the ratings follow.

Rich agrees the Bears are jumping off the page. He'd be stunned if the NFL didn't put them in Seattle.

This clip is the companion to the other Rollins drop from the same day, and it lands the same way. A Bears superfan using his platform to lobby the league in public. The pitch isn't complicated. Give the ratings team the ratings game, and let Chicago prove it.

Let's go, Rollins says. Night one. That's it.
