Friday's edition of What's More Likely had a special guest on the panel. Rich's son Coop was in the studio, Jay Feely was too, and the opening graphic immediately gave Coop flashbacks. "I'm seeing all the math that I've been doing in class," he said. "Oh, I got to go back to school on Monday."
Chris got the segment rolling with the obvious Thursday night question. Which quarterback do you trust more to win a playoff game this year, Bo Nix or Sam Darnold?
Rich didn't hesitate. "Sam Darnold, man. Come on, dude. Give us a break." He wanted to know when everyone will stop crapping on Darnold, and he made his case to Coop in academic terms. Imagine being the student with the better grades and the accolades, and someone asking whether a less accomplished kid would do better on the most important test. Wouldn't the question itself be insulting?
Coop wasn't arguing. He agreed Darnold is the better bet, and as a self-described "big Broncos hater," he couldn't get past Denver gaining 32 yards on its last 10 drives. Rich answered his question about how the Broncos keep winning anyway: Denver has now won 14 straight one-possession games, tied for the second longest streak in NFL history, thanks to its defense.
Next up was a wide receiver yet to make an impact this season catching a touchdown Sunday, Marvin Harrison Jr. or A.J. Brown. Rich went Harrison, "for sure scoring," reasoning that reuniting with his old quarterback will fit like an old shoe. That's more likely, he said, than Brown scoring while coming back from a high ankle sprain that might keep him from being fully 100 percent.
Chris asked whether Tutu Atwell would have more receiving yards than everyone on the Eagles combined. Coop took the Eagles, arguing Tanner McKee can still have a decent game against a banged-up Panthers defense, and someone reminded the room that Dallas Goedert is still around.
Then came the gut check. Which team will feel like its season is circling the drain if it falls to 3-3, the Browns or the Raiders? Rich picked Cleveland, since a loss to the Ravens at home after already losing to the Jets would sting more than the Raiders dropping a game to Buffalo. Besides, a Raiders loss would only keep alive the prophecy of Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, who predicted Las Vegas would beat the Rams in Week 7. If that comes true, Rich said, they might need him to pee in a cup. Someone suggested picking lottery numbers instead, which Rich agreed was the more positive way to go.
Rich handed the 0-5 question, Titans or Chargers getting a road win, to Coop. His answer was the Titans in a division game, because he couldn't see the Chargers going into Arrowhead against a Chiefs team coming off its bye undefeated, with a home crowd going crazy and Kenneth Walker ready to run. He wanted the Chargers to win so badly. Rich went with Coop.
On 30-plus-yard touchdowns in Dallas and Green Bay versus overtime games on the Week 6 slate, Rich ran down the list of reasons to take the long scores: Christian Watson, CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Matthew Golden, Javonte Williams, and a Dallas defense still trying to tighten things up.
The running back question, Kenneth Walker or Bijan Robinson for 150 total yards and two touchdowns, split the room. Rich went with Walker, who has been on a heater and is coming off a bye. Coop leaned the other way, worried about the other B. Robinson in Atlanta stealing touches, and about a Kansas City offense where Patrick Mahomes loves to throw it.
A final bonus question let the Brewers in on the fun. Who's more likely to win the World Series, the Brewers, Guardians or Rays? Rich went Milwaukee, which he said feels destined right now, partly because he loves manager Pat Murphy, a Springsteen guy who pushes buttons and told his team the Dodgers have Hall of Famers while the Brewers have gamers.
Coop backed him up with a fan's logic. The Miz, Jacob Misiorowski, can do so much more on the World Series stage, and the Brewers haven't had a World Series in Milwaukee in 44 years. "That crowd in Wisconsin is going to be bonkers," he said.
One holdout still took the Rays. They are down in their series, the room pointed out. Fair enough.
