McShay's In-Studio Draft Preview

Todd McShay came to the studio in person ten days before the draft with a handful of notes he called useless and a preview of the Mc Shay Show's Netflix debut on draft night.

The first big swing came at pick two. McShay's current lean is Arvell Reese to the Jets, a shift from a week ago when he was hearing David Bailey. McShay framed the evaluation as a risk floor question. Worst case, Reese is a great off-ball linebacker who can rush. Best case, he's a full conversion from off-ball to edge, not Micah Parsons but in that stylistic neighborhood. With Mougey running the Jets, risk management is the house style.

The Rams section was the most interesting one. McShay kept saying something feels weird at thirteen. He doesn't buy the Rams sticking and picking Mylan Lemon when they can get a receiver who fits their scheme better in round two. He floated Deion Stribling, Jeremy Bernard, Chris Bell from Louisville. Sean McVay's offense is attracted to a specific archetype. If that archetype is available later, Los Angeles could move up for the player who actually changes the team. That player could be Jeremiah Love, and McShay wouldn't rule out the Rams moving up to three to get him. He also acknowledged the Ty Simpson chatter around the Rams without buying it completely.

On Arizona at three, McShay heard important voices wanting Jeremiah Love. The priority for the Cardinals, though, is moving back to get a tackle like Francis Mauigoa at better value.

McShay walked through a run scenario. If the Jets pass on an edge, the Saints at eight could get aggressive. Cleveland at six takes an offensive tackle unless they move out. Sunny Styles is the floor for the Giants at seven, but McShay has heard the Giants don't want Styles, which means Styles is probably going to be a Giant. Jordan Tyson becomes the first receiver off the board, possibly at eight to the Saints.

The Cowboys want an edge if they move. Dallas has not moved up in the first three rounds since 2014. More likely they move back from twenty to pick up capital before the tackle run.

On Ty Simpson, McShay thinks the Jets are running a front. They've conditioned the fan base for 2027 and the Arch Manning/Dante Moore class. They took the Cowboys' this-year pick last year. They are not taking Simpson in the first round with those constraints. McShay thinks they take him in round two if Arizona doesn't move up ahead of them first.

The sleeper: Gabe Jacas from Illinois, a wrestling-background edge who McShay will give a double Tudum if he goes on day two.
