Musical Chairs with Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn stopped by the show to promote season two of Your Friends and Neighbors on Apple TV, and the first five minutes turned into a full-blown logistical negotiation over the guest chair.

The studio's standard guest setup is a deep seat built for tall athletes. Munn sat in it, laughed, and immediately declared the chair was not meant for a half-Asian girl. The seat swallowed her. Rich rolled with it for a moment, but Munn leaned into the bit and started openly adjusting.

The call-back moment came fast. Rich mentioned that David Spade has the same problem every time he comes in, possibly for the same reason. He also brought up Arnold Schwarzenegger's visit to the show, where Schwarzenegger walked in and, without asking, grabbed the rolling chair from another member of the panel to get a seat that actually fit him. Munn asked if she could do the same thing.

The answer was yes. They killed the original chair, pulled in a roller, and Munn got to work adjusting the height. TJ worked the radio feed through the switch. The crew tried to keep the show moving while the setup changed mid-segment. The radio audience came back from break to Munn in a new chair, lower seat, microphone repositioned.

Then there was a second round. Someone realized Rich had dropped to his knees to help Munn get the mic positioned properly. Munn asked what he was doing. Rich explained he was just trying to make everyone comfortable. Another chair got slid over. The crew dialed in the final configuration.

Munn declared herself so comfortable she'd expose every secret of hers, and the clip ended right there on the button. The scene itself was the segment. A television veteran walked into a studio built for linebackers, called out the mismatch, pulled the ripcord on the furniture, and got Rich on his knees with a microphone cable before the first question even landed.

It's a reminder of what makes the show work. The host is built for the chair. The chair isn't built for everyone. And every once in a while, a guest decides the format works better if the chair leaves and something else comes in.

Munn plays her character opposite James Marsden in season two of Your Friends and Neighbors on Apple TV. The show returns with a clip that opens on the two of them in a scene together. Whether the chair situation made it into the broadcast version is a separate question. The radio audience got the full audio of the switch, the height adjustment, and the microphone dance.

What Olivia Munn got was a chair that fit and a room that was happy to swap it out. What Rich got was a reminder that hospitality on a daily show sometimes means burning the first minute on furniture and laughing through it.
