Howie Roseman Fuels AJ Brown Trade Buzz

Howie Roseman got the same AJ Brown question he has been getting all offseason, and he finally started having fun with it. Asked whether the Eagles' recent additions of Dontavian Wicks, Hollywood Brown, and Elijah Moore signal a potential Brown trade, Roseman responded by asking the odds he would answer the question any differently than every other time. He closed with four words. AJ Brown's an Eagle.

Rich's read was structural, not speculative. It is April 14th. Even if Brown wanted out, and even if Philadelphia were open to it, nothing is moving before June 1st. The cap math does not work any other way. If a trade is coming, Howie keeps him until after June 1st, when the cap treatment changes, and then a deal gets done. If a trade is not coming, Howie keeps him and tries to win a Super Bowl with the roster as constructed.

The counter-argument Rich raised was that star players who want out usually verbalize it. Brown has not, at least not publicly. Either he has privately and Howie is holding him anyway because the cap math demands patience, or he has not and the story is simply not there.

Chris pushed back with a build-not-trade take. Wicks, Hollywood Brown, Devonte Smith, plus Dallas Goedert at tight end and Saquon Barkley in the backfield already gives the Eagles a loaded skill group. Add AJ Brown to that mix, fix the offensive line, get a better-aligned offensive coordinator, and you have a four-wide set that is difficult to defend. His point was that you do not give away the best player in that room to solve a problem you do not have.

The room got a cowboy-fan cameo from TJ Jefferson, who enthusiastically voted yes on a trade for obvious reasons. Rich used that vote as the tell. The only person with a rooting interest in the Eagles losing Brown is the fan of a division rival.

The closer leaned into a Mary Poppins bit. If a trade does happen, the draft compensation has to be so correct it becomes the spoonful of sugar to help the cap medicine go down. The likelier outcome is simpler. AJ Brown is an Eagle, and Howie is going to keep answering the same question in slightly different ways until he is not.
