Jay Pharoah's last bit on the show was the Met Gala red-carpet review. Rich pulled the photos up. Pharoah handled them in character.
First on the screen: Russell Wilson and Ciara.
Pharoah locked in immediately.
"I know that look before. I've seen this look many times, Rich," Pharoah said, sliding straight into his Eddie Murphy voice. "Both of them look like they came straight out of Coming to America. Yes, she's your queen to be."
Then he doubled back to praise Wilson on more than the suit.
"Russell Wilson still looks 23 years old," Pharoah said. "He's got his hairline all together. That is what they call historic. He got a historical hairline. He don't use the powders and the fibers. He ain't got to season his hair."
Next photo: Steph Curry and his wife.
Pharoah held back on Curry himself out of respect, on the grounds that he had wanted the Warriors to make a deeper playoff run. He found a different angle.
"Steph Curry has a face of a 26-year-old," Pharoah said. "When it comes to Draymond Green, he got the lip of a 74-year-old and the beard of a 98-year-old. There's a whole bunch of salt and pepper in there."
He paused to make sure his disclaimers were on the record.
"These are all jokes, man," Pharoah said. "Everybody looked amazing."
The Doechii photo got the most disclaimers and the fewest jokes that could be repeated cleanly. Pharoah's main complaint was the shoes, of which there were none.
He pivoted to project promotion. He has a new music project called The Odyssey. The first single, You Got Me, dropped last month. The next single, The Man, was scheduled for May 15. The full project lands June 12.
His Fox show, Quizlet Balls, is in its third season, airing Mondays at 9 p.m. Eastern. He flagged this week's Football Underdogs Redemption episode as one worth catching.
Before he left, he wanted one last bit on the record. He asked Rich to say the name of the show one more time, on air.
"Quiz with Balls," Rich said.
"Quiz with Balls, Papa," Pharoah confirmed.
