Je'Von Evans joined the No-Contest Wrestling podcast with OSHA Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson ahead of his WrestleMania ladder match, and the 21-year-old made clear how fast his world has shifted.
The hosts opened with a wide lap around the Road to WrestleMania. CM Punk's promo work, the dog food line aimed at Roman Reigns, Pat McAfee revealing himself as the man on the phone with Cody Rhodes. The hosts leaned in on McAfee's wrestling credibility, noting his NXT announce work and a moonsault off a steel cage as evidence he is not a stranger to the ring.
Then Evans arrived and the energy shifted.
21 years old. In a title ladder match at WrestleMania 42. Half the age of WrestleMania itself, as the hosts noted. Evans called it nerve-wracking and a blessing. A year ago he was opening for WrestleMania week. Now he is on the card. He said hard work pays off, and he feels like he is just scratching the surface.
He walked through his Royal Rumble experience. Standing backstage hearing Brock Lesnar's music, Randy Orton's music, sharing the ring with Roman Reigns. He played the psychology of his eliminations, making each one look like it might catch him, just to mess with the crowd's head.
On ring style, Evans copped to overshooting dives on purpose. If the move looks too clean, it starts to feel choreographed. He wants real emotion, real force, the kind you cannot fake. He has wrestled eight years. He knows how to land.
The hosts brought up the viral moment from his previous appearance, the one where Evans admitted he did not know what a Sega Genesis was. AJ Styles apparently knows. The clip got clipped. It will follow him.
On Kofi Kingston and the Royal Rumble expectations, Evans was thoughtful. Fans wanted him to recreate Kofi's legendary saves. He chose not to. His reasoning: Kofi's legacy is Kofi's. For Evans to continue it, however respectfully, would only enhance Kofi's brand, not build his own. He wants his own trail, his own craft, his own signature move nobody else has done.
The young OG is not interested in being the next anyone.
He wants to be the first Je'Von Evans.
