Andy Garcia Tells An INCREDIBLE Sean Connery Story From 'The Untouchables'

Andy Garcia did not need much prompting to share a Sean Connery story, and the one he picked, from the set of The Untouchables, is pure Connery.

The setup was a simple scene. Garcia had to walk over and answer a phone, with Connery off camera feeding the other end of the call. There was just one wrinkle: Connery was already dressed for golf, ready to bolt the moment his work was done. As Garcia tells it, the legend would shoot his close-ups looking every bit the part of Malone from the waist up, golf shoes on below.

The take would not come together. Garcia answered the phone, and director Brian De Palma called cut, because the camera had not caught his face. Garcia pointed out the obvious, that the phone was over there and he was over here, so he naturally turned away. De Palma wanted the face anyway. So they went again. And again.

As Garcia headed back to reset for a third try, Connery delivered the line. "Come on, kid, this is not Hamlet."

Garcia laughed it off and tried once more, awkwardly contorting to keep his face to the camera while answering a phone behind him. De Palma cut it again, relaying that they had only caught one of Garcia's eyes.

Connery had the closer. "You saw two eyes," he said. "They're just very close together."

And with that, he went to go play golf.

Knowing Garcia is an avid golfer, Rich had to ask whether the two ever shared a round. The answer was the only disappointing part of the story. Garcia never got the chance.
